French painter Claude Monet who died in 1926 at the age of 86, was best known for his paintings of a pond in the garden of home outside of Paris. His was a unique abstract style of painting that set him apart from his colleagues. Now a professor at Stanford University in California has concluded that Monet painted the way he did because his eyesight was fading due to cataracts. Dr. Richard Marmor compared a fuzzy photo of the pond to the look of Monet’s paintings to draw his conclusion. "It’s possible that cataracts blurred his vision and affected his ability to see colours," Marmor said.
